Tunis, Tunisia: 7 kidnapped Indian citizens in Libya released.
The Indian Ambassador to Tunisia, Puneet Roy on Sunday confirmed the news of release of seven Indian citizens who were kidnapped in Libya last month.
While briefing the media, Anurag Srivastava, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson said that the seven Indian men belong to the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, were kidnapped at a place called Asshwerif in Libya on September 14, when they were on their way to the Tripoli airport to catch a flight to India. He also added that the kidnapped Indians were the workers of a construction and oil field supplies company.
On last Thursday, India confirmed that seven Indian men were kidnapped and that it was working with Libyan Government to free them.
Earlier in 2016, Indian Government imposed a complete travel ban on Indian nationals travelling to Libya irrespective of the purpose due to prevailing of much-deteriorated security situation. The travel ban is still in force.
