Mandeep Singh became the sixth national hockey player to test positive for Coronavirus, said the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in a statement on Monday.
He is being treated alongside five other players including captain Manpreet Singh. Defender Surender Kumar, Jaskaran Singh, drag-flicker Varun Kumar and goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak have all tested positive the previous week after returning to the SAI Centre.
“He is being administered treatment by doctors, along with the other five players who have tested positive.”
As per the SAI doctors, all the players showcased only “mild symptoms” and are currently doing well. They are being kept at the National Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Initially, they were stranded at the centre for over two months up till June when the national lockdown was imposed to contain Coronavirus.
