According to a popular American travel website called the Points Guy, you can save money by cutting down the extra baggage costs. He has some valuable tips for you related to flying and traveling in general.
Most airlines will allow hand baggage free of extra charge, which is usually stored in the overhead lockers. This bag must fit their size and weight criteria, though. For the second luggage, however, you’ll have to pay £30 or more depending upon your airline.
He explains that there are four primary ways of avoiding paying checked baggage fees. These include:-
- Fly using an elite status ticket or travel with someone with elite status
- Have the right credit card with you or fly with someone who has
- Buy a premium ticket like first class, business or premium economy
- Fly to a specific destination or under a special circumstance
The best way to be sure to avoid unwanted costs is to weigh your bags before you arrive at the airport. There are plenty of travel scales in the market that can give you an idea of whether your bag is over the prescribed limit or not. He also suggests cramming all of your stuff in a single suitcase which you can store in the overhead lockers without checking in.
