Naneghat is a place, located in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra near Junnar in Pune. It is located about three hours from Mumbai. Here, in the cryptic mountain, the waterfall flows in the reverse direction. Many may have in their minds what phenomenon takes place? Well, the answer is simple, the cause is the strong force of the winds that pushes the gushing waters upwards.
During the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji, many have used this trekking route to carry out trade many centuries ago. This place is a heaven on earth when viewed from the top. This statement is backed by every visitor who visits this waterfall in Naneghat.
Naneghat is popular among serious trekkers. So, the first timers can enroll for a trekking expedition to this region and behold the beautiful white cascading waterfall that does not know the law of gravity here. However, it is better to visit Naneghat waterfall in monsoon as this strange occurrence takes place only when the force of water is strong enough.
Naneghat trek forms a portion of Ghatghar forest, which is located more than 120 km from Mumbai and about 150 km from Pune. This place can be reached by the trekkers through the Kalyan – Ahmednagar Highway, and also from Kalyan. The trek itself is 4 to 5 km long (one way); the difficulty level is medium and it could be covered in a span of 5 hours both to and from. It is mandatory, though, to wear good trekking shoes with a firm grip, especially if it is monsoon season. The routes have been well-marked for the convenience of visitors. There is no way you can get lost, so get your backpack ready for a trekking expedition in the mountain.
For those who want another way, alternatively, visitors can drive their vehicle to the top of the mountain and enjoy hot bhajiyas and tea at the small dhaba located there.
Apart from the usual items to be carried on a trek such as the torch, power-packed food, medication, water bottle etc. visitors would also need to pack in a wind-cheater and waterproof jacket, umbrella, sunglasses, cash, power bank and warm clothes. Make sure to have enough water so as to trek all the way to the top.

For those who want to reach this place, take the state transport bus from Kalyan bus stand to Junnar. The destination is located on the Malshej Ghat road, close to Vaishakhare village. Naneghat is easily reachable by road. Also, there are several trekking groups operating in Mumbai and Pune that can be searched online. They normally charge INR 750 per person.
