Bihar: The Election Commission said the free Corona vaccine announcement did not violate election rules.
The legislative general election is underway in Bihar. In turn, the BJP election report was released in Bihar recently. In it, it was reported that the Corona vaccine would be free for all people if the BJP coalition won.
There has been criticism on behalf of the opposition parties. That is, it is the state’s duty to provide the Corona vaccine free of charge and it is not a concession. Chief Minister Edapadi Palanizami said the Corona vaccine would be given free in Tamil Nadu immediately after the BJP election report was released in Bihar.
The petition was filed under the Electoral Commission’s Right to Information Act to determine whether the BJP’s free vaccine pledge violates election code of conduct. In response, the Electoral Commission said the free vaccine pledge did not violate election conduct rules.
According to the constitution, the EC’s declaration of public welfare in the election manifesto does not violate the rules of electoral conduct. However, the EC has said it will avoid making promises because it ruins the purity of the electoral process.
Similarly, the Election Commission reported that the rules of conduct were not violated in the announcement of the NIAI plan announced by Congress during last year’s general election.
