Leh (Ladakh): Ladakh Tourism, which is the backbone of the economic activity, has been severely affected, due to COVID-19 pandemic. The shopkeepers has lost their everyday income to run their homes.
Streets and markets in the Ladakh looks like desert in lockdown. People who are mainly associated with the tourism industry, such as commercial shopkeepers, hotels, tour operators, commercial vehicles, guides, porters, and others are in tough time to face it.
Lobzang Chukee, a shopkeeper, told to ANI that COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected our business and we don’t know how we are going to overcome this huge loss. Earlier there use to be many tourists at this time, but right now we couldn’t even find anyone here because of the pandemic.
Another shopkeeper opened up himself with heavy heart saying we are not in good state now. As we all know that Ladakh is fully depended on tourism and we opened few shops but we could not even find any heads; everyone is staying at home due to coronavirus. Liquor industry hasnt affected but we are facing hardships everyday.
The sources said that 80 per cent of the travels lost their 100 per cent income during the lockdown.
