Kapil Sibal on Monday deleted his tweet where he lashed out at Rahul Gandhi for his reported accusation that senior Congress leaders who were seeking a change in party leadership were “colluding with the BJP”. This came after him being told that Gandhi had never said what was attributed to him.
During the Congress Working Committee meeting, Sibal tweeted, after being aware of the scenario: “Was informed by Rahul Gandhi personally that he never said what was attributed to him. I therefore withdraw my tweet,”
Ghulam Nabi Azad, another supporter in favour of bringing in leadership changes inside the party, read out the letter and offered to resign because he faced major criticism from several leaders, including the Gandhis.
Former Union Minister Kapil Sibal, who is also among the 26 leaders who have written to Sonia Gandhi, opposed resolutely to Rahul Gandhi’s allegation: “Rahul Gandhi says we are colluding with BJP. Succeeded in Rajasthan High Court defending the Congress party. Defending party in Manipur to bring down BJP Government. Last 30 years have never made a statement in favour of BJP on any issue yet ‘we are colluding with the BJP!'” he posted.
