Nawanshahr (Punjab): Due to technical faults, a Mig-29 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed and burst into flames in Chuharpur village, officials said.
While addressing the media, the officials said that the pilot ejected safely and has been rescued. The aircraft took off from Adampur Air Force base in Jalandhar. Two fire tenders were pressed into service as it burst into flames after the crash.
Nawanshahr Deputy Commissioner Vinay Bublani told PTI over phone that the fighter jet crashed in Chuharpur village. Exactly around 10:40 am, the crash took place. The pilot is perfectly fine and after the flight crash he was taken to the community health centre at Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur district.
An IAF spokesperson said that the Mig-29 aircraft was on a training mission.
Besides he said the aircraft had developed a technical snag and the pilot ejected safely as he was unable to control the aircraft.
The official said the pilot has been rescued by a helicopter and a court of inquiry ordered to investigate the cause of the accident.
