Kochi, Kerala: A man converts his auto rickshaws into a vegetable cart, due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Abu owns 4 auto rickshaws, upon facing a financial crisis due to COVID-19, started using them as vegetable selling cart in Kochi.
Speaking to media, said Abu, the auto rickshaw owner, said “There aren’t many passengers now. So, I decided to do this, as I felt like we are going to starve”. Abu also said that his friends have joined him in selling vegetables. Though there is no much profit, it helps them to survive the economic woes. Along with his 8 employees, Abu procures vegetables from the market and sell them to the houses and apartments between 9 am to 8 pm every day.
According to a recent report by the International Labour Organization (ILO), 4.1 million Indian youth have lost their jobs due to the impact of COVID-19 spread. The report calls Government to take immediate action to generate jobs to minimize the further scarring of 660 million youngsters in the country.
