Some unidentified persons shot at a BJP party leader near Budgam railway station in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday morning. The 38-year old man has been identified as Abdul Hamid Najar.
Hamid Najar is, at present, BJP’s Other Backward Class (OBC) district president in Budgam. On the day of the attack, he had gone out on a morning walk without any prior information. He has been shifted to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for medical treatment now.
Security forces have already sealed the area and search operation has been put into force to seize the culprits. According to police, Najar was already provided with a ‘secured accommodation’. Yet, he had gone out for a walk without informing the security forces. Police sources have informed that it is not unlikely that Najar has been targeted by terrorists.
It is the fourth attack on BJP leaders since June in Jammu and Kashmir. On August 6, some unidentified terrorists had shot dead a BJP sarpanch outside his residence at Vessu. The Sarpanch, identified as Sajad Ahmed Khandey, was shot from an intimate range and was also rushed to a hospital where he died.
