Gonda, Uttar Pradesh: Acid attack on 3 Dalit girls, police arrested 19-year-old man.
According to the police report, Ashish Chaurasiya who is accused of throwing acid on the three Dalit sisters, was troubling the eldest sister for quite sometime and pressuring her to talk to him.
Shailey Kumar Pandey, Superintendent of Police, informed media that the three Dalit sisters were attacked with acid, while they were sleeping inside their house in the early hours of Tuesday. The eldest sister suffered major injuries on her face and chest while the other two suffered minor burns on hands but all the three of them are out of danger.
After the family of the victims registered a complaint, police launched a search for Ashish, the accused. The police found him arriving on a motorcycle. His bike slipped when he saw the police jeep and he opened fire at police and police personnel retaliated in self-defense during which the accused got injured. He has been arrested and sent to a hospital for treatment.
Chauraisya’s arrest led to a protest by local traders and residents of paska town as they blamed police for framing Chauraisya in the case. However, the police rejected the allegations and said that two of the three girls informed the police that they saw Chaurasiya escaping from the house after throwing acid-like liquid on them.
Police also added that the accused confessed the crime during interrogation.
