A study says that despite of all its negative effects, stress will benefit people socially.
The study was published in the journal Stress and Health.
A team of scientists found that experiencing stress made people both more likely to give and receive emotional support from another person and also they suggest that even though stress can lead to negative impacts, it will also give you potential benefits.
David Almeida, the lead researcher in this study, says if we have a bad day, that doesn’t mean the day will completely unhealthy. If stress can actually connect us with people, then it will be a vital experience for mankind. Stress could ultimately drive people to other people to deal with negative situations.
For this study, researches interviewed 1,622 participants every night for eight nights. They asked participants about the stressors. The stressors may be received or gave. It may be created in the work event, school place or in the family.
After the research, they found that on average, participants were more than twice a week likely to either give or receive emotional support on days they experienced. Precisely, they said, “women tended to engage in more giving and receiving emotional support than men”.
The researchers said they were surprised to see that the people are not only receiving the support, but also they are giving it to everyone.
