Kutch, Gujarat: Tanishq ad controversy, showroom made to put up an apology note.
Tanshiq showroom located in Gadhidham town in Gujarat on Wednesday displayed an apology note for its recent advertisement featuring a Muslim woman with a Hindu Daughter-in-law which stirred a controversy on social media.
The showroom owner and the police denied the rumour floating on media that a group of people angry with advertisement barged into the store and threatened the manager. No official complaint was launched.
While speaking to the newsmen, the Gandhiadham Tanishq showroom owner Prakash Gupta said, “Some people came to us on October 12 saying that the Hindus have been hurt by the advertisement. At that time, I did not know about the advertisement. They demanded an apology and put up the board”.
The 45-second-long video ad for Tanishq Jewellery’s new collection called Ekatvam- refers to ‘Oneness’, showed a Muslim family organizing a baby shower for their Hindu daughter-in-law. immediately, the management of Tanishq Jewellery brand withdrawn the advertisement due to various forms of pressure as many people via social media, claimed that the ad deeply offended the Hindu community.
The handwritten note was put up on October 12 in the display of the showroom said, “We apologise to the Hindu community of Kutch on the shameful advertisement of Tanishq”
The note condemned the ad, which has been withdrawn from all the platforms after it received backlash with #BoycottTanishq trending on social media.
Advertising Club tweeted in support of Tanishq ad featuring interfaith family, “Such baseless and irrelevant attack on creative expression is extremely concerning”.
