Amazon employees get an email to delete the TikTok app from their mobile phones. If not followed, then they would lose access to the word emails through their cell phones. However, later the same day, Amazon communicated that the emails were sent in error and there is no change to their policy. This brings a lot of questions as many warehouse workers of Amazon do not use their mobile phones to access their work emails anyways.
The Secretary of the State Mike Pompeo revealed earlier that the administration is considering a ban on the TikTok app. The step taken by Amazon, even if it was walked back by them, seems to have triggered hereafter. TikTok seems to share the user’s personal data with the Chinese Govt. and is breaching their privacy. And this exchange is believed to be the repercussion of the global pandemic that was born out of China. Many TikTok users are believed to have pranked one of the rallies of the President by registering many seats in the rally and not showing up, resulting in a small number of attendees.
The order by Amazon and its reversal, the concerns and reasons it thought about, are still unclear. However, ban or not, this incident has brought up the potential threat of TikTok on users’ data.
